MITA SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS 2021

Application deadline: April 16, 2021


This year the Massachusetts Italian Teachers Association (MITA) is offering four scholarships for HS students.

ELIGIBILITY


  • Students must have studied Italian for three years at the high school level.
  • Students must be planning to attend a four-year accredited college or university.
  • The Italian teacher must be a current member of the AATI/MITA.


REQUIREMENTS

In order to be considered for one of the MITA scholaships, students must submit the necessary documentation by APRIL 16, 2021. Please, read carefully the instructions below.

A. STUDENT. Complete our online application providing the required personal information and uploading the following documents:
  1.     an official school transcript
  2.     a typed personal statement, written in English describing the impact the study of Italian has had on your life and its role in your future.

We strongly suggest to preview the application form and have your essay and transcript ready to upload.  The application form and the necessary files should be submitted by April 16th, 2021. Use the button below to start your application.

B. TEACHER / RECOMMENDER. The application is incomplete until we will receive two other documents:
  1.     an "Italian Teacher Evaluation Form" (provided by your Italian teacher)
  2.     a letter of recommendation from a different teacher or administrator

Both the evaluation and the letter of recommendation can be uploaded by your teachers using the links below. The evaluation and the recommendation should also be submitted by April 16th, 2021.

MAILING IN YOUR APPLICATION
If you are not able to submit your application electronically, you can still participate. Send us all the information using the forms below. Don't forget to include your essay, your school transcript, and the letter of recommendation with the forms below. The documents should be postmarked April 16th, 2021.

OTHER INFORMATION
  • Scholarship amounts vary depending on the funds available to MITA (check will be made directly to recipient).
  • The MITA Scholarship Committee will review all applications that are completed on time. Winners will be notified in mid May.
Scholarship recipients  2019
The MITA scholarship committee is very proud to announce the 2019  winners of the MITA  scholarships  to 5 very outstanding students of Italian who embody the mission of MITA.  The MITA Scholarship Committee chose the following 5 students:

  • Sophia Micale (Winchester High School) in memory of Aldo Servino

  • Zachary Trainor (Medford High School) in memory of Daniel and Mark DiCarlo

  • Piera LoContro (Gloucester High School) in memory of Concetta Barinelli

  • Julia Derocher (Nipmuc Regional High School) in memory of Antonietta Covino

  • Robert Bourque (Woburn Memorial High School) in memory of Michele and Caterina Procopio
Scholarship recipients 2018
The MITA scholarship committee is very proud to announce the 2017-2018 MITA winners of their scholarship to 4 very outstanding students of Italian who embody the mission of MITA.  There was tough competition again this year and among the many applicants the committee chose the following 4 students:
  • Kristen Thornton (North Quincy High School) in memory of Rose Chiurri
  • David Williams (Winchester High School) in memory of Michele e Caterina Procopio
  • Hadar Boker (Lexington High School) in memory of Simeone and Vittoria Dominijanni
  • Caroline King (Gloucester High School) in memory of Vito Scorza
SCHOLARSHIPS RECIPIENTS 2015
The MITA scholarship committee is very proud to announce the 2015 MITA winners of their scholarship to 4 very outstanding students of Italian who embody the mission of MITA.  There was tough competition again this year and among the many applicants the committee chose the following 4 students:
  • Patrick Grady - Stoneham High School - in memory of Vito Scorza
  • Angela Petretta - Pittsfield High School - in memory of Rose Chiurri
  • Eric Salina - Burlington High School - in memory of Simeone Dominjanni
  • Cassandra Susi - Stoneham High School - in memory of Mark DiCarlo
