Join us to celebrate the 20th Week of the Italian Language in the World; Italian Between Word and Image: Graffiti, Illustrations, Comic Books (October 19-25, 2020). Cara Takakijan (UMass Amherst) will offer a fascinating exploration of Italian comics, a hybrid art form of images and words that both reflects our time and helps to shape it. The power of comics lies in their ability to entertain young children who can barely read, reflect the joys and anxieties of teens, and offer insight into contemporary politics and social issues. This webinar will show how, even before TikTok, pop culture, media and youth were represented in the world of comics and how comics subsequently shaped the world. Free and open to the public.
